The Kano State Immunization Accountability Scorecard 2024, developed by the Africa Health Budget Network and the African Field Epidemiology Network through the Gavi’s Zero-Dose Learning Hub, provides a rigorous evaluation of the state’s commitment to financing and sustaining routine immunization. Structured around three critical pillars—budget summary, health financing, and service delivery—the scorecard utilizes a traffic-light scoring system to track both financial and non-financial performance at the sub-national level. Key findings for 2024 reveal that while Kano increased its health sector budget allocation to 16.4 percent, significant challenges remain, including a low 10 percent quarterly release rate for primary healthcare activities. The scorecard serves as a vital advocacy tool, concluding with targeted recommendations for civil society organizations and the Community of Practice to engage the state government on improving budget transparency and ensuring the full release of immunization funds to reach every zero-dose child in Kano.
