Gavi’s Zero-Dose Learning Hub IRMMA Aligned Interventions: Semiannual Update—Uganda (October 2025)

by JSI

From January to June 2025, JSI, as the Zero-Dose Learning Hub’s global learning partner, continued close collaboration with the Uganda Learning Hub to generate actionable evidence for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and other immunization partners. This semiannual update highlights the Learning Hub’s research portfolio and how evidence is being used to better understand and address persistent barriers to identifying and reaching zero-dose (ZD) and under-immunized children and missed communities. Key activities included final analysis and dissemination of the evaluation of UNICEF-supported house-to-house registration, follow-up of 99 ZD children from the baseline survey, mapping of partner interventions, a health facility assessment, and documentation of lessons from the roll-out of Equity Accelerator Fund-supported activities. Findings reaffirm that identification alone does not ensure vaccination—many children remain unreached due to weak documentation, limited community engagement, and irregular outreach. Yet the report also highlights growing uptake and application of Learning Hub evidence, as the Ministry of Health, UNEPI, and other partners increasingly use findings to strengthen planning, coordination, and data systems. Together, these learnings mark a meaningful step toward more context-responsive, cost-efficient, and sustainable approaches to reaching every child in Uganda.
